What is a personality benchmark in hiring?
A personality benchmark defines the traits shared by your top performers in a specific role. By establishing this standard of success, you can evaluate how closely new candidates align with those characteristics and predict how they might perform on the job.
How does the Talent Insights Benchmarking Tool work?
You start by selecting 1–3 top performers in a role who have completed their MAP assessment. The system then analyzes their data across three models—DISC, 16 Personality Types, and Holland Code RIASEC—to identify common traits. You can then compare candidates to this benchmark to see how they match or complement your top talent.
What types of traits are benchmarked?
The Benchmarking Tool looks at:
- Behavioral styles (DISC)
- Work Style preferences (16 Personality Types)
- Career Interests (Holland Code – RIASEC)
It highlights overlaps and differences to show how traits might influence job performance.
Why is benchmarking better than gut feeling?
Benchmarking removes subjectivity from hiring by focusing on patterns that already exist in your top performers. This leads to more consistent, data-backed decisions—and helps reduce hiring mistakes caused by intuition alone.
How many people should I include in a benchmark?
We recommend selecting 1–3 top-performing employees in the role to establish your benchmark, and 1–3 candidates to evaluate against it.
Can I use benchmarks across different roles or teams?
Yes! You can create as many benchmarks as needed—each one tied to a job title or team. This helps you tailor hiring criteria to the actual needs of the role.
Does this help improve team dynamics too?
Absolutely. The benchmark not only shows alignment with top performers but can also help you identify candidates who bring complementary strengths to balance and strengthen your team.
Do I need to interpret complex charts or data?
Nope. The Talent Insights interface is visual and intuitive. Benchmarking results are presented clearly with trait summaries, graphs, and color-coded maps that anyone can understand—no psychology degree required.
Is this tool only for hiring?
While it’s optimized for hiring decisions, benchmarking can also support internal development, succession planning, and team-building by clarifying what success traits look like in specific roles.
